A sad, sad day for readers. I was BEYOND disappointed in this book. I was riding the line on giving Mrs. Jennings three stars but I felt like I wouldn't be being honest with others if I did so. I have been waiting for this installment for a year and I thought that the anticipation would make the story even better once I got my hands on it. I was wrong. It was the exact same theme-- Dorian sacrificing himself for Gabs even though she doesn't want him to, but she isn't strong enough to stop him--only she was supposed to be stronger than everyone in this setting, and she was still the same weak (emotionally), sex starved girl she was in the first couple of books, only not nearly as well written. I found myself yelling WTF and OMG in an irritated voice more than I have in any other book I think I've ever read on my Kindle before. I don't know if that's because I was expecting so much more from this story or because it was that bad. Nothing in the story really happened for me until about the 70% mark. Everything else seemed to be pointless, boring page fillers. Here were my exact thoughts on the first 50% of the story:The father I thought was dead is alive. Oh! Dorian, let's have sex.
My best friend tried to kill herself. Let's have sex.
The only parents I ever knew, now don't know me. Let's have sex.
The love of my life has run off with his ex and doesn't remember me. Nico, let's have sex? (This one was the only thing in the story that I didn't expect to happen...and it didn't. Which only made things even more awkward for me at the end.)
Geezus is there anything sex can't fix? Apparently not in this book.
And what about the biological father she'd been dying to meet up until this point? Hello, does his character still exist. Gabs was so worried about chasing after Dorian, yet again, that she literally had 1, yes that's all, one-on-one conversation with her father actually asking him about his past, her mother, and the life they had up until the point that she was killed. I honestly wish I wouldn't have read the last book so that the strong willed girl with out of this world power would still be the last impression I have of Gabs. It's not anymore, by the way. Obviously Gabs can only use her powers when Aurora is threatening to sleep with Dorian or steal him away from Gabs.
Above everything else though, I feel like my biggest problem with this story was that Gabs exhibited none of the "strengths" or "powers" she supposedly had during the big battle. She was there for all of two minutes before running off to chase after Dorian who consistently leaves her hanging whenever possible and says absolutely hurtful things to her. But no--that's not it either. The part I absolutely loathed the most was that once Gabs finally got her chance at Stavros, she was immediately choked out, almost to the point of death, and she wasn't even the one to put him down.
Wait, what? You mean to tell me the most powerful girl in the book, isn't strong enough to fight off the same character everyone has been fearing since the first book? Well hell, Stavros should have been the dark light, at least he knew what the hell to do with power. Not that he needed it when he fought her, he just told her Dorian didn't love her and then thoroughly choked her out. Disappointment doesn't even scratch the surface of how I feel at being so invested in a series and an author to be let down like this. I wouldn't recommend this story, and I won't be looking for anything else from this author.

Light Shadows The Dark Light Series Book 3 edition by SL Jennings Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Ok, so here's the deal...I read the first book and wasn't impressed enough to buy the next in the series. Fast forward to Born Sinner (which I loved) and I decided to go back and read the second and third books (mostly to learn about Niko *swoon*) before I read End of Eden. Seriously, did the same author write Shadows and the Se7en series? Shadows is full of filler. Nothing happens but Gabs inner monologue of poor me. Tears everywhere. She keeps saying she hates those types of girls and yet behaves like one the entire book. This is the woman destined by the Devine to save the otherworlders? Seriously, she can barely function on a day to day basis. And don't get me wrong, I love a hot and steamy sex scene, but OMG, enough already. How about some time with the dad, or Morgan and Lars, or the Light and how those powers work. Why the brands, where is the mark of the beast, how does she just manifest brass freaking knuckles? Anything to actually build the characters and advance the story. I'm giving this a three stars because while I'm disappointed in this story, I didn't hate it.
I'm still waiting for the heroine the first two books were promising. We spend two strong, detailed books building up to the ascension and the promise of a strong main character. That character just never manifested.
The most powerful being on the planet. And going into the third book, she acknowledges her purpose is to rule them all.
Her maturity level plateau'd after book 2. She never became more than she was, in terms of emotional strength. She never developed convictions. Ive never seen so many tears, spread across so many pages. Its a wonder this chick wasnt hospitalized for dehydration every other week!
Everyone saves her. Constantly. Over. And. Over. She *never* develops the capability to save herself.

Yeah, she finally killed stavros. A severely weakened, mostly dead version of stavros. And ONLY after he offs Niko. The writing of this scene made it clear that at no point was Gabriella ever actually a match for Stavros.
And the reunion with Dorian at the last? All I could think was "can he shower first? Maybe brush his teeth?" He has spent the whole book wrapped around a sex demon. You know danged well he tapped that an hour ago. Skeeved me out.
And the brands on killing folks. Dorian/Niko have both slaughtered masses right? Why are they not covered? "Well, they are Dark, so are not effected by killing". Uh, no. Then why arent the Light folks covered with the brands?
The reversal was to bring forth the Light in Dorian, so we spend 3 books proving they all have light/dark in them. So why exactly is Gabs so different?
An italicized voice speaks to Gabs at a couple points (when shes hysterical and overwrought.... again). No followup on the voi e though. The Divine? Her inner cray? Nah, she admitted repeatedly that she us unable to calm herself and requires others to constantly hang around to do it for her.
Where did the slore leanings come from? She was not affiliated with the sex leanings. She was supposed to be a fighter, yeah? So why was she constantly.... CONSTANTLY trying to bang and booty call any available guy in the book? Dorians in Greece? Call Jared! Dorians held captive by Stavros? Call Niko! Heck, Dorian went to the corner store? Call. Anyone.
Gabrielle is weak. Weak in power. Weak in character. Weak in convictions. She began in mediocrity, and though it was promised she would rise out of it, she ended in mediocrity.
